0% VAT on Solar Panels and Heat Pumps

On the 23rd March 2022, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced a cut to VAT on energy efficiency materials, including solar panels, heat pumps, and insulation. These items are zero-rated for VAT for five years, effective from 1st April 2022.

This tax cut was designed to encourage a broader uptake of renewable energy systems by UK businesses and homeowners.

The VAT cut applies to the cost of installation ONLY. Installers will continue to pay 20% VAT on goods purchased from Hamilton Hartley Ltd but will be required to charge the end customer 0% VAT, then reclaim it in their VAT return.
